LCD HDTV
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) television and High Definition Television (HDTV) are terms
commonly heard today but few of us understand just what they are. If you are a savvy shopper you will have
questions and answers in purchasing a television today. Gone are those days when you bought a television because
you like the cabinet it was in. To day you have a choice of many different kinds of televisions. As we mentioned
there is the LCD, HDTV as well. Let’s look at them and define what they are.
The LCD is generally compared to the plasma television. In essence they are both flat panel televisions but on
heats up more than the other and on e has more glare in a bright room than the other. With the advent of high
technology each of these is becoming better and the difference is small. The LCD and Plasma televisions are popular
but the price is still prohibitive to the budget minded consumer. The alternative to these televisions is the rear
projection television which projects the image from behind and reflects in onto the screen. The traditional
television had the projector in front of the screen like a movie theatre screen.
Here in the United States we have seen the demise of analog television and the birth of digital television.
Those of us that still have the older model television have to use a converter box in order to get digital
television. Our other option is to buy a new high definition television. High Definition Television has better
resolution and sound. The signal is best with broadcast, satellite or cable although you can get a fairly good
reception with either and indoor or outdoor antenna. As signals become more digital and the need for the converter
boxes diminish, the cost of the HGTV will slowly come down.
You have many options today when you go out to buy that new television. You not only have to decide as to the
type of television you want you have to be sure it is compatible with the room it will be in. The ultimate decision
will be: what size should the television be and do you want an LCD or plasma and will a high definition television
get a signal that that will get a good reception. An LCD flat screen TV is for you if you watch a lot of
daytime television, you watch a lot of TV shows, and you play a lot of video games.
The LCD flat screen TV has its advantages: it has a screen size of nineteen inches to as high as seventy inches;
it has a good viewing angle; it has excellent contrast; as well as excellent video motion. The LCD panels weigh
less than other flat screen panels, it uses less energy and burn-in is not a problem
The best way to buy a television, for your home today, is to measure your available space, learn the pros and
cons of LCD, HDTV and compare the prices, then decide and buy the television that best suits your needs for
entertainment and your pocket book then, sit back and enjoy.
